You may have seen a story in the news over the weekend regarding the National Autistic Society being issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of £4,000 relating to the abuse that was uncovered at Mendip House. The fine relates specifically to the financial abuse of people where some members of staff had made the people they supported pay for staff meals while on trips out.
This was wrong and should not have been allowed to happen. The NAS reimbursed the money in full in June 2016, making sure that none of the people in our care lost out in any way financially.
The recent media reports do not contain any new revelations about what happened at Mendip House, but the stories include details from the Somerset Safeguarding Adults Board’s Safeguarding Adults Review (SAR) published in February 2018.
